Intro 資訊

In June 2022, I embarked on my first international journey across the pond to London, UK with Air Canada.  I held a lot of expectations before the flight hoping that the national carrier of Canada would represent the country with great service and catering.  Let's see how these expectations were met in this review.

2022 年 6 月,我乘坐加拿大航空公司開始了我的第一次國際旅行,跨越大洋彼岸前往英國倫敦。 起飛前我抱有很多期望,希望加拿大的國家航空公司能以優質的服務和餐飲代表這個國家。 讓我們看看這些期望是如何在這次審查中得到滿足的。

 

Pre-flight 飛行前

Our flight departed from gate D in terminal M, which is where all international flights are boarded, expect those to the U.S., in which case you'll be boarded from gate E.

While this terminal is not the best for planespotting, it is decorated with many indigenous features.  The lights that hang from the ceiling is also a recognisable feature of this airport.

Planespotting is possible if you know exactly which gate to go to. 如果您知道你的登機門在哪裡,就可以拍攝飛機了。

 

Boarding 登機

Boarding is divided into zones for Air Canada flights 加航航班的登機分為幾個區域:

  1. Prebaording for those in need/families with small children 有需要協助的旅客/與小孩或嬰兒同行的家庭預先登機
  2. Air Canada Supe Elites, business class guests 加航 Supe 精英及商務艙旅客
  3. Air Canada Elites, Star Alliance Gold, premium economy guests, premium credit card holders 加拿大航空 Elite、星空聯盟金卡、高級經濟艙乘客、特選信用卡持有人
  4. Those who purchased 'Comfort Fare' or are seated in 'Preferred Seats' 乘客購買了“舒適票價”或坐在“首選座位”的旅客
  5. Zones 4 - 6 第4-6區旅客

Since I did not fall into any of the priority boarding categories at the time of my flight, I boarded in zone 5.  This came as a blessing since our flight were stuck at the gate for another 45 minutes before we were cleared for departure.  If I boarded early, I would have spent an extra 75 minutes in my seat on top of the 8-hour flight.

Flight Experience 飛行體驗

The 787 is a fairly new aircraft in Air Canada's fleet, therefore it features the airlines' newest seats and entertainment system.  In economy, the seats feature 30 inches of legroom, which is not a lot.  But thanks to my slim body build, it didn't really bother me too much.  What annoyed me was how thin the seat padding was and I slowly felt the pain coming from my butt.  The seatback also doesn't have any kind of lumbar support, I therefore had to use the pillow provided to act as a back support by placing it between my back and the seatback.  Also, because of how thin the seat padding is, I could feel every movement of the passenger behind me when she was taking things in and out from the seat pocket.

Thankfully, the IFE is loaded with a good variety of movies and an interactive flight map.  This made the flight less mundane.  One thing that worth noting is that although earphones are complimentary on international flights, on domestic flights, you'll be charged a small fee if you need one from the cabin crew.  So I'd recommend bringing your own whenever you're flying with Air Canada.

值得慶幸的是,個人娛樂系統設有各種各樣的電影和飛行地圖。 這令飛行變得有點不平凡。另外值得注意的是,雖然國際航班上免費提供耳機,但在國內航班上,如果您需要耳機是需要詢問空服人員,您也會被收取費用。 因此,我建議大家搭乘加拿大航空公司航班時自帶一個耳機。

First Meal Service 第一餐飛機餐

Our meals were served an hour-ish after takeoff.  I was excited to try out Air Canada's international meal service for the first time.... just to be let down very soon.

我們的第一餐在起飛後一小時左右供應。 我很高興的是第一次嘗試加航的國際餐飲服務……只是很快就失望了。

Normally, airplane food taste better than it looks.  But in this case, it tastes as bad as it looks. 通常,飛機餐的味道比看起來好。 但在這種情況下,它的味道和它看起來一樣糟糕。

 

The flight meals on Air Canada are curated by celebrity chef Jerome Ferrer, a Canadian chef based in Montreal, Quebec.  Well, if I were him, I wouldn't want my name to be associated with this piece of... well, rubbish.  The bread roll is hard as rock, butter is cold, the appetiser is not appetising and the pasta?  Blend, dry and rubbery.  The only thing that I liked was the chocolate muffin.

Though, I have to say that I was served a better meal on my return flight 不過,我不得不說,我在回程航班上得到了更好的一餐:

The chocolate pudding on the top left of the photo above is really the highlight of the meal. 上圖左上角的巧克力布丁真是這整飛機餐的亮點。

 

I visited the lavatory after the meal.  I quite like the mood lighting and pattern on the wall.  The lavatory was neither stocked with any amenities nor was it cleaned by the crew throughout the flight unlike many Asian carriers.

飯後,我去了廁所。 我非常喜歡牆上的氣氛照明和圖案。 與許多亞洲航空公司不同,洗手間既沒有配備及任何便利設施,機組人員也沒有在整個飛行過程中清潔。

I spent the rest of the night trying to fall asleep while being kicked on my seatback by the toddler sat behind me.  Her mother didn't bother stopping her either.

當我被坐在我身後的蹣跚學步的小孩踢在我的椅背上時,我整晚都在努力入睡。 她媽媽也懶得阻止。

 

Second Meal Service 第二餐飛機餐

Approximately 90 minutes before our arrival, we were served breakfast.  By this time, I'd lowered by expectation, expecting at least a warm pastry.  Well, I was wrong again.  We were served a cold croissant, a yogurt, along with your choice of drink.  

在到達前大約 90 分鐘,空服人員派發早餐。 這個時候,我已經降低了期望,只希望有一個暖的糕點。 嗯,我又錯了。 我們享用了牛角麵包、酸奶以及您選擇的飲品。

Conclusion 總結

The hard product on Air Canada's 787 is pretty much up to standard, apart from the meals.  In terms of the soft touch though, I find there could be room for improvement - crew could be a bit more attentive and proactive.  

加航B787的硬件除了餐食外,其他都差不多。 不過,觸感而言,我覺得他們還有改進的地方就是工作人員可能需要更加細心和主動。

 

In late 2022, Air Canada has announced a series of 'enhance service' in all cabin classes, though the main focus would be their premium cabins.  Across all cabin classes, meal service would be improved.  So I'm enticed to fly them again internationally to see how much of an improvement there would be.

2022 年底,加拿大航空公司宣布了一系列針對所有艙位的“增強服務”,但重點主要將放在高級艙位上。 在所有客艙等級中,餐飲服務都將得到改善。 所以我很想再次駕駛它們進行國際飛行,看看會有多少改進。
