The Vancouver - Montreal route is 1 of the 2 transcontinental routes from Vancouver that features lieflat business class seats, with the other being Vancouver - Toronto. The lieflat business class seats are known as 'Signature Class', and is available on Air Canada's widebody aircraft, which include the 777-200LR, 777-300ER, A330-3001, 787-8 and 787-9. On this flight back to Vancouver, I'll be flying on Air Canada's 777-200LR, configured with Signature Class.

Planespotting 觀望飛機
Prior to the flight, I had a planespotting session in Parc Jacques-de-Lesseps. This is a park located close to the airport and is well-known by local planespotters. In this spot, you'll have a good view of runway 06R/24L. This runway is mainly used for departures, but you'll occassionally see planes landing here. It does get quite hot during summer so make sure you have enough water as the closest restaurant (Tim Hortons) is a good 20-minute walk away if you're not driving.

Pre-flight 飛行前
Since my flight departed at 5pm, I made my way to the airport on foot just after 1pm. I had the option to catach an Uber but since I had some time to kill I decided to just walk.

Although travelling in business class grants you priority check-in, ironically, the self check-in kiosks were mostly empty while there was a huge line at the priority check-in desks. I therefore used the kiosks since I was not checking in any bags.

Business class passengers are eligible to enjoy the Maple Leaf Lounge, which is an Air Canada lounge. It is worth noting that a more superior lounge, the Signature Suite, is available for those flying internationally, and have paid for a ticket in Signature Class2. This lounge is available in Vancouver and Toronto. Unfortunately, I did not have any photos of the lounge, apart from the signature Air Canada 787 aircraft model that is placed at the entrance of all Maple Leaf Lounges.

Boarding 登機
Boarding began on time... or so I thought. Due to the number of travellers and the cramped space, it was rather chaotic. Like I mentioned earlier, boarding is divided into zones. There are various lanes set up in the boarding area but there isn't enough space for people to line up, not to mention that there are people lining up when it's not their turn.

Boarding was further delayed due to technical issues on the aircraft and most of the us stood there for a good 30 minutes before boarding really began.

Inflight Experience 機上體驗
Once onboard, I was greeted by the crew who showed me my seat 7A. This is a window seat on the left, in the last row of the first business cabin (front cabin).

This seat provides ultimate privacy being the last row of the cabin, and having no seats in the middle section. The only downside is the occassional noise in the galley when the crew are setting up for meal service and tidying up for landing. Otherwise, this would be a good choice for those who want to have some personal space. The second cabin (rear business cabin) on the other hand, features a smaller cabin.

The seats are the Diamond seats manufactured by Collins Aerospace, and are similar to those found on China Airlines' 777-300ER and A350-900; British Airways' Club Suite product; and Westjet's business class on the 787-9 etc. So it is not a surprise that you'll find these seats to look similar if you have ever flown on those products before!

While boarding for economy class and premium economy was still in progress, the cabin crew took our meal orders. The cabin crew would first approach guests with highest elite status, then work their way down from there. Without having any status with Air Canada, I was one of the last passengers to have my order being taken. Though thankfully, my option was still available.

After boarding completed, we were stuck at our gate for almost another hour as the airspace was approaching its busiest time of the day. Once we gained approval for departure, we were pushedback from our gate and were on our way to Vancouver.

Not long after takeoff, I began indulging in my first movie of the flight - James Bond. Thanks to the noise-cancelling headphones, I was able to hear the movie audio without much disturbance from the sound of the engines.

Meal Service 飛機餐
Meal service began with appetisers, a salad and a bread. The meal came in a tray, and the cabin crew would swap the dish when you are finished with your previous course.

At this point, I was already pretty full. I was offered to have my dessert served after my main was cleared, but was told they can serve it at a later stage so that I didn't have to stuff everything into my stomach at the same time. I find this to be a nice touch from the crew.

For the remainder of the flight, the crew proactively walked around the cabin and offered us drinks and snacks.

Conclusion 總結
It is nice to see full service being gradually restored in the pointy end of the plane after the pandemic. Given that this flight was flown in July 2022, I am sure there are even more improvements in service at the time of writing. With more improvements underway, I'm sure that Air Canada's Siganture Class would be a solid choice among travellers.
